“This program changed my perspective on entrepreneurship,” said Rachana, now a GWI graduate. “My biggest takeaway is that entrepreneurship is not a solo sport, rather, entrepreneurship is about embracing the relentless pursuit of an opportunity.”
During GWI’s 10-week signature program, which is offered online after school and even during school in some districts, students bring their own business ideas to life. In the process they develop a business plan, pitch deck, résumé and interview skills, and an understanding of business fundamentals. “Their confidence soars,” says Jennifer, “and they come out with 25 improved work-readiness skills.”
“Montgomery County Public Schools is excited to bring this free Business and Leadership program to MCPS girls and gender expansive youth in Grades 9-12 and equipping them with the skills, knowledge and confidence to become entrepreneurs, innovators and leaders,” said Elaine Chang, the Department of Partnerships Director.
The leading non-profit business education program for young women -- today announced the appointment of four new Board Members to support its growth plans from 16,000 young women and girls served since inception to 50,000 over the next five years.
The additions bring the number of Board Members to seven.
In the Nutmeg State, chronic absenteeism in the 2021-22 school year was 23.7 percent or more than 115,000 students — more than double the 10.4 percent before the pandemic. This past school year wasn’t much better: 20 percent chronic absenteeism.
