In Celebration of International Women’s Day at State Capitol, CT’s Girls to Develop Big Ideas at Girls With Impact Workshop

Hartford, CT, March 3, 2020 – In an effort to increase the number of women leaders and innovators in Connecticut, 150 teen girls will learn how to drive change through a Girls With Impact workshop being held at the State Capital as part of International Women’s Day.

The girls, ages 15-16 from Connecticut High Schools, will complete the Impact Your World workshop on leadership and entrepreneurship led by nationally known author and CEO Jennifer Openshaw, as seen on Oprah.

The workshop will cover:

  •  The importance of entrepreneurship to career and college success

  •  Turning a passion or skill into innovation

  •   Creation of a vision statement

  •   Presentation of ideas by each girl

Why:  

  • Lack of women in high-skill, high paying jobs – 6% CEOs, 14% engineers, 37% entrepreneurs. 

  • Girls face unequal access to skills training: girls represent only 15% of students in career and technical.

  • Need for innovation and job growth in CT

  • 60% of GenZ women want to drive social change
