TEEN GIRL CEOS SHOWCASE THEIR BUSINESS ACUMEN AT GIRLS WITH IMPACT’S
ANNUAL LUNCHEON AMONG 200 BUSINESS LEADERS
New Haven’s Crissy Tracey and Stamford Mayor Caroline Simmons Share their Innovations in Health & Government
Training the next generation of women as tomorrow’s leaders was the focus of Girls With Impact’s Fifth annual gala.
Held at the Belle Haven Club in Greenwich, the sold-out event brought together 200 leaders from across education, business, and philanthropy. Special guests included Bon Appétit chef Chrissy Tracey of New Haven and Stamford Mayor Caroline Simmons.
Theresa Hopkins-Stanton, president of Eversource Energy‘s Foundation, and Greg Butler, Eversource executive vice president, welcomed guests and described their four-year partnership of investing in under-resourced young women from Connecticut through Girls With Impact.
“Studies have shown that integrating women into different sectors of the energy industry – or any industry for that matter - unlocks productivity, return on investment, and customer satisfaction,” said Hopkins-Stanton. Girls With Impact’s mini-MBA program provides young women with the critical career and leadership skills they need to develop into future leaders who will lift up the world.”
Three Girls With Impact graduates -- Karin Lund (15), Arianna Anderson (14), and Darline Fleurimond (16) -- were interviewed by Brett Markinson, a serial entrepreneur whose own daughter also underwent the program.
Asked about the impact of the Business and Leadership Academy, Darlene said, “Before the program, I wanted to go into nursing. But now, I want to go into business.”
“You can even combine nursing with business,” Markinson remarked.
Other girls shared their experiences, pointing to increased confidence and leadership skills they'll carry into college and career.
Senator Blumenthal (D-Connecticut) made an appearance, applauding the confirmation of Kentanji Brown Jackson, the first black female judge on the U.S. Supreme Court.
Ms. Tracey, daughter of New Haven Public School’s Superintendent Dr. Ilene Tracey, talked about becoming the first vegan test at Bon Appetit, “Every day I get to innovate in the plant-based space. If you’re thinking about going vegan, avoid processed foods and introduce new meals. I like making my own meats with chicken and seitan.”
Ms. Simmons talked about making Stamford a more family friendly city with more parks and improving transportation from Stamford to New York City.
Among the event’s sponsors were Apollo, Bevan-Dadino Foundation, Bridgewater, Deloitte, Eversource Energy, Innovent Capital, Morgan Stanley, Petit Family Foundation, The Windhover Foundation, the Regenerous Institute, UCONN’s Werth Institute, and United Rentals.
Amid the world conflict, attendees were encouraged to pay it forward -- from sponsoring a girl to adopting a school to becoming a corporate sponsor.
Attendees were also encouraged to share the program with their networks including schools and community organizations that information can be found here.
