4 Women Owned Brands To Fulfill All Your Gift-Giving Needs

Did you know that there are over 13 million women owned businesses in the U.S. alone?

This accounts for approximately 40% of all businesses – a stark and hopeful contrast to the 8.1% of Fortune 500 companies that women run.

While these women are making huge strides towards equal representation in the business world, data shows that it is statistically harder for women owned companies to receive funding, and generally survive. This is made worse when you consider the difficulties that many businesses have faced in the past 24 months – from COVID, to supply chain issues, to inflation eating away at operating margins.

This holiday season, Girls With Impact urges you to shop women owned brands for all of your gift-giving needs. Below are just a few of our favorites to get some ideas generating!

1. Kenson Kids

Started by two “Mompreneurs” in North Carolina, Kenson Kids provides fun and engaging parenting solutions that are loved by kids and parents alike.

Their unique chore charts and incentive-based products help to “positively influence behavior, manners, and self-esteem” and you may actually recognize some of their offers from your child’s classroom! Whether you’re focusing on tooth brushing, potty training, or improving homework habits, Kenson Kids can help enforce routine without sacrificing the fun.

2. Paper Punk

Shopping for a lover of patterns, art, and color? Paper Punk might be the perfect creativity-inducing gift.

Grace Hawthorne started the business as a way to reconnect children to the “tangible world” as much of their environment turns digital. The products are essentially paper-based building toys, similar to Legos, that allow for a more unstructured and imaginative experience. Children are able to take 2d flat shapes and transform them into paper toys and art forms with just their hands, some creativity, and a few folds. Not only is this experience fun, but the end results are truly gorgeous, and just as much art as they are toys.

3. Little Patakha

Akshata Nayak wanted to design a book for her daughter that would introduce her to her native language of Konkani. One thing led to another, and she ended up founding Little Patakha (puh-Taa-khaa, which translates to Firecrackers in Hindi.)

The company offers books and toys that expose young minds to diverse worlds, cultures, and ideas that they may not regularly encounter. The goal of the company was not just to spread cultural awareness, but to do so at a young age, when minds are naturally curious and constantly exploring.

The company was founded in 2020, and is currently still in its early stages – but keep your eyes out for new products on their website as they expand!

4. Little Likes Kids

Founded by Kemi Tignor in 2018, Little Likes Kids is a toy company focused around representation – something they call the “new generation.”

Their website offers everything from puzzles, to memory cards, to advent calendars – each focused on what children today truly observe in their everyday lives. This includes diverse representation, and reflections of recognizable situations that children run into!
